"So Why Have we Written This Free on-line Thailand Travel Guide?"
That is a question that's very easy for us to answer? We loved Thailand from our very first visit and have now travelled to every major Province, Resort and Island. (We love it so much that we now live there every Winter)
Who are we? That's simple, its my family and we have all contributed to this travel guide.
When we first visited the Thai kingdom we fell in love with it.
We kept our own 'diaries' to record our many experiences.
We studied and learnt about Thai people and their culture.
Embraced the Thai way of life.
Walked on some of the Worlds greatest beaches.
We even opened a restaurant for local Thai people. This was our greatest challenge!
We have been travelling and living in Thailand for the past 18 years and have a wealth of knowledge that we love to share.
Before setting up home there, we have been on countless Thailand holidays in all points of the Thailand compass.
We are passionate about all thing Thai; read on to see why.
When you travel on a Thai holiday you will have your own unique memories. The Thai's are famous for their winning smiles, outstanding service and hospitality.
The country is amazing; there is so much to discover for the intrepid traveller.
To help you start your travel experience, this site is filled with common sense Thailand travel tips and a wealth of invaluable information to help you unravel some of the Kingdom's best kept secrets.
Check these out for just some of the things we love; then you may understand why we have now made it our home.
- Savouring the different healthy and tasty Thai recipes in all parts of the Kingdom
- Walking barefoot on many of the sun soaked beaches
- Farming and working rice fields in the central and northern areas
- Living in Bangkok and discovering some relatively undiscovered traditions and culture
- Thai Winters are comfortably warm and not too humid. We don’t miss the English winters at all
- Great shopping ........... and such fantastic value
- Massage! Yes you can get a relaxing massage to ease away the pains of the day and it will not break the bank; for example a full Thai body massage costs 300-600 Thai Baht and it is usually 1 to 1.5 hours
- Saving the best to last; The people are so friendly and welcoming, especially so in areas where there are very few tourists!
Our First Visit
Before our first visit to Thailand, we had heard so much about the sun soaked beaches, stunning scenery and bustling tourist markets, mostly from friends who had returned from one of many Thailand holidays.
After our first brief air conditioned taxi ride and we were in an air conditioned hotel.
We spent a total of 4 days in Bangkok, hopping from air conditioned shops to air conditioned offices via air conditioned taxis.
It could have been any city in the World so we ventured outside to see how the people really lived.
On our return journey we reflected on our voyage. We very struck by our new experiences.
Bangkok appeared to be completely chaotic as a first impression but after tuning in a few days later, you can see how it functions. Much to our surprise no-one seems to have road rage despite the constant menace that's caused by bad diving.
Above all, we were amazed how friendly and polite everyone was to us everywhere we went. In the short time we were there, we also had to try out some of those infamous Thai restaurants.
The Love Affair Continues!
Over the years our visits increased in length and frequency, mostly on Thailand holidays. We have visted all the major cities, explored the countryside and mountains in Chiang Mai Province and frequented the exotic and lively holiday resorts such as Phuket, Koh Samui, Rayong Province and Krabi
Every visit left us with a new perspective and a new story to write about.
The final result is that we packed our bags and made our home in a town called Korat, about 3 hours drive from Bangkok.
The journey from our first visit to finally setting up home was a huge learning experience and the voyage of discovery has been memorable.
We have tried to grasp the best of both worlds from Asian and Western values without interfering with the Thai way of life. We never forget there are 65 Million Thais; it's their country and we are their guests.
If you are intending to become one of the millions of people who visit there each year please feel free to browse through our site so we can share our knowledge with you.
