Taxis in Bangkok

You will never be far away from the thousands of taxis in Bangkok, they are everywhere. With a few exceptions they are all air conditioned, which can be a real relief in the Summer months.

There are distinct groups of colours for the taxis, red & blue, green & yellow and pink; this sometimes makes a colourful scene.

You can hail a taxi from anywhere. When they stop; first check that the driver understands your Thailand travel destination. This could be anywhere in the country!

Top Tips:

  • It's always useful to have someone write down your destination in Thai before you make your journey
  • Ask your hotel for a business card for the return journey as this generally has the address of the hotel in Thai
  • All taxis should be metered and the price is clearly displayed, the starting price is currently around 35 baht

Journeys are not expensive, however, if you want to make a journey outside of Bangkok in a metered taxi, they will usually have a 'set price menu' for any destination within Thailand, this takes away the stress of watching the meter ticking over!

The prices are quite reasonable considering the distances involved but as with most things in Thailand you may be able to barter for a cheaper price.
