Pattaya Thailand
"You haven't seen anything yet"

Welcome to Pattaya Thailand, a schizophrenic town torn between its fame as a sex tourist paradise and a desire to change its image as a more family friendly holiday destination.

Which is true? Both of course.

As with any resort, if there is a demand then Pattaya endeavours to supply it, hence most of the bars in the Central area are full of bar girls and men who want to meet them!

However, Pattaya can still offer a great family oriented holiday if that is what you are after.

The resort is very commercial so you will never be short of activities for you or your family. All ages are catered for and it’s easy to fill every day with fun activities.

If you want bars and crazy nightlife then stay in the town centre, however you don’t have to go far to find a quiet hotel near a great beach.
Pattaya Beach Thailand

We love going slightly south of Pattaya beach and staying in the Jontiem Beach area where you can escape the Mayhem.

On the edge of the town there is a plentiful supply of top class hotels, some of them are all inclusive.

We don’t use the ‘all inclusive resorts’ because there are too many great restaurants to try, all at reasonable rates. .

Most of the major hotel grounds are big enough to offer sanctuary away from the Pattaya nightlife but close enough that you don’t need a taxi enjoy the town’s facilities.

Weather in Pattaya Thailand

As with most Thai resorts, the best times to visit are from November (the end of the rainy season) until Early March, just before it gets too hot.

Being a beach resort of course means that you can always get away from the ‘mid-day sun’, unless of course you are a mad dog or an English man.

As you would expect from a major tourist resort, Pattaya is an all year playground, and it’s just as busy in the wet season from July to October.

Attractions and Suggested Days Out

There are endless activities whether you are a thrill seeker or a culture vulture.

The attractions in Pattaya are very divers from bungee jumping to touring sacred buildings. These are our favourites:

Sanctuary of Truth

The Sanctuary of Truth is made entirely from wood and this amazing building been under construction since 1981. sanctuary of truth Pattaya thailand

The entry cost is around 500 baht and we think its great value for money.

The building is absolutely huge and takes your breath away. There are as ever some guides to help you look around.

As with any resort don’t accept an offer of a guide outside of the building.

Dolphin Park

We love playing with the Dolphins and it's much cheaper than seeing them in Orlando.

Oasis Sea World makes a great day out and you can get an organised tour from any tour agency in Pattaya.Phuket Thailand Tuk Tuk

Walking Street

Not a place for the faint hearted. In Pattaya Thailand there are more lady bars, lady boy bars and other places that open your eyes per square meter (or any other measurement you may care to use) than any other place in the World.

At least that’s the impression of anyone who has visited the place.

Don’t be put of a walk down this street though, it’s fascinating and we have to say quite safe if you are not intending to cause any mischief.

Our Favourite Hotel

Well… it’s not actually in Pattaya, we like staying near Jontiem Beach in a small hotel called the Baramie.

This is a small family run hotel, very hospitable, great service, good pool and the owner makes sure that everyone is happy with their stay.

This is a good place to stay if you want to relax away from the mayhem.

Don't go on our recommendation alone, try some of the recommended travel sites

Getting There

Pattaya Thailand is a relatively short drive, about 1.5 hours drive East of Bangkok so it’s fairly easy to get to by Taxi, especially form Suvarnabhumi Airport which is the main international hub for Thailand and located to the east of Bangkok (which of course is the right side for Pattaya).

All the major hotels have booking office where you can plan your excursions. There are booking offices everywhere in all the big resorts where you can negotiate a better rate for your trip.

Hiring Motor Cycles - If you can avoid hiring a motor cycle it may save you some unnecessary grief. The accident rate in Pattaya is not far behing that of Phuket, but that doesnt make it good.

Everyone is different, so if your favourite location in or near Pattaya Thailand is not mentioned here, please contact us with your favourite resort or hotel and we will publish it for everyone to share...... and of course we will give you the credit.
