Thailand Food Guide
Thailand food is affordable, verrrry very tasty (yum yum) and the bonus is that it is so healthy. That's great! Finally there is a pleasure that is good for you. Because there are so many street traders selling food, there is always a wonderful aroma hanging in the air whenever you are in a busy town or city. Thai food recipes have been developed over centuries and passed down through the generations resulting in a unique taste and texture that is unmistakable. Most ingredients in Thai dishes are home grown and farming plays a major role in the Thai economy, especially Thai rice which is the Nation's staple diet. Treat yourself to a taste of ThailandThere is an abundance of rice, vegetables and fish from both the river and sea, resulting in relatively cheap (but fantastic) food to suit all tastes. The Thai’s have a love affair with Chillies so most Thailand food recipes will include these to some extent. Don't be alarmed though, most dishes are tamed down in tourist areas where people may not be prepared for them. Be aware that the potent chillies are the small green ones; phrik khi nu. Don't try eating them raw! What the Foreigners eatWe asked our non-Thai friends to list their top 5 Thai dishes and these are the results. - Tom yum - Thai soup, usually served with chicken, pork or seafood
- Tom kha gai - Chicken in coconut soup
- Phat Thai - Fried Thai noodles
- Gaeng Khiao Wan Gai - green chicken curry
- Pla Kung - spicy prawn salad
This list came as a bit of a surprise to us but it just goes to show that everyone's food tastes are different. Our preference was more towards seafood.
