More Thailand Travel Tips
Here are some more Thailand travel tips to keep in favour with the locals or Thai Police. There are many aspects of Thai life that you will never need to consider is you are simply visiting for a holiday, however forearmed is forewarned - Thai is the native language, if you go off the beaten track without a guide you may well encounter language problems if your knowledge of spoken Thai is 'lacking'.
- It is common advice not to give to child beggars, however sorry you feel for them. They may have been deliberately deformed to get extra sympathy cash. Your donation may add to the problem rather than resolve it.
- Don't insult or say anything disrespectful about the Thai Royal Family. The Thais revere the Royal Family, especially the King. If you show respect that will be appreciated.
- The Thais take their personal hygiene and appearance very seriously. Don't appear too scruffy but above all shower regularly as you will sweat more than they do in the humidity.
- Be sensible with your alcohol consumption. You may give the impression of a drunkard if you caress a bottle of beer whilst walking.
- Your wallet can determine the level of attention you receive from the ladies. You know if you are attractive to women, if you are a realist then don't believe everything that you will be told by an attractive lady..... You hunk.
- Enjoy the shops and markets and barter a good price. Think at least half of the original asking price. If you don't believe it, walk away, you may get called back...
- Littering is an offence that may cost you some of our holiday money. Please show respect by using any litter bins.
- Most Thais will not appreciate you touching their head; this is a high or revered part of the body. Failure to head this advice may result in bruising on the offender’s part.
- When entering a Thai person's house, take off your shoes.
- Learn some Thai language and customs before you go. The effort really will be appreciated by any Thais you meet.
- If you are unlucky enough to get into a situation with the Thai Police it helps if your voice and manner are calm. Getting excited or shouting in English (or your native tongue, whatever that may be) will only make the situation worse.
