Travel Safety

I have enjoyed every visit to Thailand. Following some basic travel safety tips has helped me (and will help you) to get the most out of your holiday; most of these may apply to any country you visit.

Remember, you are a visitor to Thailand and if you act accordingly then you are unlikely to encounter and problems, especially in the more popular resorts. Bangkok is still a very safe city for tourists; I have been lost a few times as I like to get off the beaten track but I have never felt threatened when assisting the help of locals,

  • Try to avoid walking alone at night in quieter areas, if you do then just stay aware. The chances are you will be perfectly safe but this advice would also apply to anywhere in the World.

  • Stranger Danger - If you are approached and asked to go with them in a tuk tuk or taxi the chances are it’s a money making opportunity for them, not for you. It may be something more sinister so politely refuse and walk on.

  • Don't wave wads of cash around in public, its common sense that this may lead to an uncomfortable situation anywhere in the World
  • Make sure your health is protected by consulting your GP about recommended immunisations at least 2 months before you travel to Thailand
  • Respect the Royal Family. Failure to do so in a blatant and offensive manner may result in an unexpected extension of your holiday in a less than comfortable Thai Prison
  • If you are uncertain about the political situation before leaving your country then the first port of call is always your Government's travel advice, usually posted on their WEB sites or type in 'travel advice Thailand in search engine such as Google
  • If you see a situation brewing between Thais, try to keep out of it if possible and go elsewhere. If you must get involved then do so by reporting a problem to the police in a calm manner; they don't respond well to shouting

Remember that violent crime against tourists is rare in Thailand and travel safety is generally not an issue; the vast majority of people have a wonderful trouble free and experience in Thailand.
